· Developed and a taught a three-day on-campus, in-person course at the Publishing Laboratory, within the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, & the Arts at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Course comprised of eleven students who elected to attend all three days.
· Purpose of the course was to give an overview of independent publishing from the perspective of a literary editor overseeing a publishing imprint in New York, with a biographical sketch and a brief presentation of the titles published by the imprint.
· The course evolved into a deep dive into the financial and market realities of independent publishing, best practices to overcome challenges to meet editorial and business needs, and strategies to collaborate across fields within publishing to establish cross-channels of communication and assistance to further mentor and shape the future industry
· Course included student-led discussions and questions about the industry, writing exercises, and continued mentorship by email and video after completion of the class to any interested students wishing to seek guidance for the next stage of their careers.
